My EDM310 Blog Assignments are now Complete

Classmates thank you for all of the hlpful hints that you shared with me on a daily bases. Hope to see you next semester.

What have I learned

I was very scared of this class when i registered for it because the last computer class that i was inrolled in was very hard. Surprisingly thought this class has been fun but challenging. The most important thing that i learned in this class is about google and all of the wonderful FREE things that they offer. I have used the Google power point a few times for other classes this semester and will continue to use it probalby forever. i also learned a little about spreadsheet, I have only used them a few times before and the reason for that is because the confuse the hell out of me, this class however has left me with more knowledge of how to manipulate them and i am sure that with a litte more practice i will get the hang of it. I don't think that you could make this class more enjoyable.

WIKIPEDIA

Wikipedia is a reliable source for information, and it is easy to use, it is however necessary that you back up what you find on wikipedia with other research because of the fact people can alter the information on wikipedia if they do not totally agree with what it says. I am glad that we have discovered a way to track changes that have been made to this website. This will help to get a handle on all of the bored people of the world who place untruths on wikipedia.

Mindsets

The children with the growth mind set will be easier to teach. Fixed Minds believe that their basic intelligence is just a fixed trait. The Students with the fixed mind set will be a little more difficult to teach because, I will have to get them to learn how to see things a little differently than what they do.
As a teacher it is my job to make student understand that they never stop learning. I will lead by example in my classroom by learning with my students, this will help them to understand that we never stop learning no matter how old we are, and that even if we don’t get it the first time that it is okay we can always try again.

I Tunes and PBS

I watched the Observe Clouds video in the grades K-5 section. The video was basically clouds rolling by and eventually they sped up, It was kind of boring. The video did however provide an educators guide that provided a summary of discussion questions, and background information. It is a great program because it is free.
This is a great resource for a classroom. The activity could be a great critical that the students could utilize during free time or after they finished their assignments. thinking activity

I Tunes what?

I tunes U is what puts the power of I tunes to work for colleges and Universities so people can easily search, download, and play course content the same as music, I tunes U's purpose Is to first make the classroom always in session by allowing twenty four seven access in educational content from hundreds of colleges, second it allows learning on the go, by allowing students to sync I tunes U to any Ipod or I phone so they can learn as they workout, play, or just relax at home. Third is to keep student motivated by using vivid videos and audio that is more interesting than book ever could be. and lastly it will allow schools to open their content to the public for example parents, alumni, or anyone with a love of learning. this could possibly change the way the world learns,

Ipods in classrooms

when i first saw this assignment i thought how in the world could you use an I pod in your classroom but surprisingly I found lots of neat examples where teachers are using them on a daily basis, For example in New Jersey teachers are using I pods to help ELL students with English, the students will listen to the music, hear the words, and began to understand them.
Duke university will give 1650 Ipods to incoming freshman as part of initiative to foster innovative uses of technology. Duke will load orientation information, an academic calender, and even the duke fight song. The purpose of this is to allow students to download course content, record lectures, and, foreign language lectures.I think that this is a very neat idea i wish i had of gotten an Ipod when i enrolled at south.

Formula for sucsess

I chose to read February's blog titled a Formula for Success, this blog was about teachers teaching math in a way that will allow students to relate to the problem in the real world instead of just having students plug in numbers with a formula and solving. basically he was trying to say that if students can relate the math problem to the real world then they will have a greater chance of remembering how and why to do it.
As someone who has always struggled with math this article hit home because I am the student that has no idea why math works no matter how hard i try or practice I memorize it for the test then i walk out of the class and forget it. I think that if I had a teacher that related math to things that were in the real world it might have made a great difference in my life.

Technological Literatacy Why Not?

Reading Septembers blog really made me think about technology and teaching in a way that I had never done before. I guess that it never really occured to me that as a teacher it is my job to be technologically literate. Not only for my sake but for the sake of my students. My knowledge will directly effect them. I really agreed with the seven guidelines that Mr. Fisch posted on his blog. I guess I always just knew that those things were an understood, to think that their are accutally teachers out there that would question those statements is scarry.
I think that one of the main things about being a teacher is always be willing to try new things, to broaden your horizens every chance you get, why would you not. So for teachers that don't want to try new things, like become more tecnologically literate is really setting bad examples for our students. We as educators or future educators are role models for students and if we are not willing to try new things they will not be either.

international classromm blogs

i found Mrs. Cassidys class located i n Moose Jaw Canada, Her class of first graders use blogs nearly everyday. They have blogging buddies at the University of Saskatchewen that are helping them learn to read and write. they also have friends, that consist of other elementary classrooms all over the world. Mrs. Cassidys students are getting a great lesson on different cultures. Mrs Cassidy post lots of pictures and videos of her class on their blog homepage so whoever visits gets a great view of their daily class. Another thing about Mrs. Cassidys blog is that it allows her to reach her students everyday because it is very cold and they have lots of snow in Canada so the kids don't always make it to class everyday, but this blog allows students to participate even if they are at home.here
Mrs. M in Austrilla uses her classroom blog to show her parents the daily actiities that are taking place in her class. She also gathers and shares different ideas with other teachers. It is a very interesting site you can visit it by clicking

Blogs in the classroom

As I was searching the internet for teachers that use blogs in thier classrooms, I came across Ms. Schwichtenberg's first grade class. This teacher is using blogs in her classroom to help her first graders to learn how to read and write. Her students have blogger buddies, which are students from a local university there in colorodo, that are helping the students learn about capitol letters, puntuatation, and propper spacing. And in return the first grade students are very entusiastic about showing their buddies what they have learned, and their blogs are proof that this is working because every time they make a post they improve. If you would like to view this site you can visit by clicking here.
Mr. Zani's class was the second class that i came across as i was searhing for blogs in the classroom, his class is also a first grade class. His classroom's blog is used more for keeping parents, teachers, and students connected with each other, but that is not all, they also spend alot of time connecting with other students through blogging, they are able to learn what it is like in other parts of the world. The real kicker is that they are practicing their reading and writting skills the whole time. If you would like to visit this class blog clickhere

Access is a distance learning tool that provides high quality course work to students. Access uses the latest interactive instructional models to provide a technical infrastructure that delivers pedagogically sound courses via the Internet. It also blends online Internet based work with Alabama certified teachers.
Accesses' main goals are first, provide access to advanced diploma or duel enrollment courses. Second, it wants to provide access to remediation and supplemental resources. And lastly, it wants to provide teachers with additional multimedia and technology tools to enhance instruction.

alex

Alex stands for Alabama Learning Exchange. this website is dedicated to connecting teachers, students, and parents to resources and learning tools like lesson plans, web links, and activities.
Teachers can visit lesson plans to find new ideas and inspiration. Also they could use they the search link to find course of study standards that are frequenlty tested or hard to teach. Lastly they could use the personal workshop web pages, to save and share lesson plans. I think that this is a wonderfull tool that teachers, students, and anyone interested in learning should take advantage of.

Shift Happens ready or not!

After watching the movie "Did you know? shift happens", I was very surprised to find out that the United States is slowly but surly dropping the ball. We have all this education and technology at our fingertips, but it seems that we are just taking it for granted. The world is changing so fast, and we have no time to waste. We must take advantage of the tools we have been given and pass on our knowledge so that new generations will prosper just as we have.

the first day of class has been very eventful!!!
